Europe Day is commemorated on 9 May in memory of the statement made by the then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in Paris on 9 May 1950, by which the start was given to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), in 1952, and the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1957, which later became known as the European Union. May 9 has become the European symbol that, together with the euro, the flag and the anthem, identify the political entity of the European Union.
